Multi-stage model of cell division and death (MS model). The cell cycle is divided into N different stages. A cell has to visit N stages in order to divide. At each stage j, \(j=1, \ldots ,N\), the cell may proceed to the next stage, with birth rate \(\lambda ^{(j)}\), or die, with death rate \(\mu\).
