Schematic presentation of the synthesis routes employed for the preparation of the luminescent polystyrene (PS) microbeads, encoded with (a) Nile Red, (b) OA/OLA-stabilized CdSe/CdS-QDs without pretreatment, and (c) OA/OLA-stabilized CdSe/CdS-QDs, synthesized with the developed and optimized procedure, including the pretreatment of the QDs with the polymer-compatible ligand OBDAC. The photographs of the respective ethanolic bead dispersions were taken under day and UV light.
