Overview of analytical workflow: male (n = 20) and female (n = 40) college students (mean age = 18.5 ± 0.7 years) were recruited and classified by food security status within the last 30 days. Fecal samples were collected and microbiome and metabolomic analyses were performed via 16S amplicon sequencing and mass spectrometry, respectively. Following data integration and metagenome assembly, statistical and predictive analyses were performed to articulate molecular signatures associated with recent food security.
