Alpha diversity trends in the Bedford Basin from 2014 to 2017. Species richness (Chao1) and species evenness (Shannon diversity) were correlated with day length (a,b), temperature (c,d), and chl-a concentrations as a proxy for biomass production (e,f). Linear regression lines are shown in blue for the euphotic zone and in red for the aphotic zone. Pearson correlation coefficients are indicated as R on the plots with their associated p-value. The ASV table was rarefied to 5000 reads prior to analyses, and seasonal patterns remained present independent of rarefaction depths (Supplementary Fig. 3).
