Homologous type I and II patterns of VSIG1 expression exhibit an epithelial phenotype, with synchronous membrane expression for E-cadherin and β-catenin. In contrast, VSIG1-heterologous cases are rather mesenchymal-type, with total or partial loss of E-cadherin and membrane-nuclear translocation of β-catenin.
