From: Immobilised teicoplanin does not demonstrate antimicrobial activity against Staphylococcus aureus

Immobilised Teic does not demonstrate biocidal activity against S. aureus. Aliquots (50 mg) of TSP and a silica particle control (SPC; 50 mg) were exposed to a 105 CFU/mL suspension of S. aureus and incubated for 24 h at 37 °C. A bacterial culture alone and a culture containing free Teic (600 µg/ml) served as controls. As anticipated, cultures treated with free Teic led to complete bacterial demise (***p < 0.0001). In contrast, the TSP cultures exhibited similar bacterial numbers to SPC and bacterial controls. All data (mean ± SD; N = 9) represent pooled triplicate runs from 3 independent experiments.
