Main phylogenetic hypotheses of Deinopidae assessing the monophyly of Menneus. We included all alternative tree topologies, which include non-monophyly of Deinopis and Asianopis in Supplemental Fig. S1. Phylogenies are based on (a) morphological data, (b) incomplete molecular data. The two primary alternative hypotheses we tested with the addition of Menneus from Australia: (c) PME size is reduced once and (d) PME size is reduced twice, independently in Australian and South African Deinopis.
