Conceptual layout of the proposed system. Phase imaging of cells with a known geometry provides their refractive index and density, which are necessary inputs to numerous Brillouin parameters, while also computing the water content by mass and volume. From this information, several viscoelastic properties are directly computable, without assumptions of the underlying parameters.
