Consort diagram demonstrating the final data set. An elevated ICP event (≥ 20 cm H2O for 10 min) comprised a case event; events were considered independent if they occurred at least 5 h apart in the same patient. Control periods consisted of 6-h durations in which ICPs remained < 20 cm H2O. Thus, each patient could provide case events and control periods. Data was regarded as “insufficient” if > 20 min (~ 10% of a record) was of poor quality or missing.
