Design of the conducted 7-day incubation experiments. Triplicates (one replicate was lost for 1 mM Fe-level) consisting of 50 mL plume sample plus 450 mL artificial seawater medium (ASW) were set up for a range of spiked Fe-concentrations (Fe(II)SO4, 0 µM, 0.1 µM, 1 µM, 10 µM, 100 µM, 1 mM, and 10 mM Fe). Pure 500 mL ASW triplicates were set up as controls. After 7 days of incubation at 4 °C in the dark, the bottles were sampled for characterization of the indicated parameters.
