From: Low frequency electrical waves in ensembles of proteinoid microspheres

A comparison of two distinct electrical signal types is illustrated in the figure. The first form of nerve impulse is the action potential of a crayfish stretch receptor neuron. These neurons are specialised to sense changes in either length or pressure. Proteinoid microspheres, a form of artificial cell created by heat polymerisation of amino acids, generate the second electrical signal. Modified from2.
