Experimental task used in the study, showing from top left to bottom right the progression of the visual stimuli in time. At the start of each trial a gray screen followed by a fixation cross is displayed (total time 5 s), then the threatening stimulus is displayed in a central location (2.5 s), followed by another gray screen (0.8 s), after which two probe pictures are displayed side-by-side.
