Figure 6

(a) Boxplot of the final Mean Squared Displacement for all tested strains. Letters indicate significant differences as obtained from Tukey's post hoc ANOVA tests. Plots representing the Mean Squared Displacement over time for strain ISA1075 (b), representing diffusive (linear) dispersal (type 1); strain ACJY144 (c) representing non diffusive dispersal with two phases (type 2); strain TCMz (d) representing non diffusive dispersal with three phases (type 3). The figure (e) represents the percentage of strains belonging to each dispersal type. In panels b-d, the coloured dots represent the raw data averaged for each time window. The solid lines correspond to the best supported piecewise regression models determined thanks to the p-values of Likelihood Ratio Tests performed with the anova function (see Methods “Piecewise linear regressions and statistical tests”). The grey dashed lines correspond to the confidence intervals calculated on the MSD means obtained by replicates. These intervals therefore account for inter-replicate variability. The black vertical lines indicate the breakpoints identified by the piecewise linear models. The dashed lines of the same colour as the regression sections correspond to the extrapolation of the linear regression of the first phase.
