Schematic diagram of the cellular communication between PDLSCs and BMMSCs in periodontium. PDLSCs contribute to BMMSC osteogenesis via Rab27a-mediated EV secretion. EVs are internalized by BMMSCs, activating ERK1/2 phosphorylation, mainly through caveolae/lipid raft endocytosis.
