Regional variation of diabetes incidence (top) and prevalence (bottom) in Austria in 2016. Each district is colored depending on its age and sex standardised incidence (prevalence) rate. Light colors in central parts of Austria show districts with low incidence rates while darker colors mostly in the north east districts indicate higher incidence rates. The East–West gradient for the incidence is not as pronounced as for the prevalence, suggesting that some Austrian regions are “catching up” in terms of prevalence. The maps were created in Python v3.9 using the matplotlib v3.0.3 (https://matplotlib.org/) library.
