Anti-cancer effect of PSE on A375 melanoma cell line in vitro. (A) PSE induces apoptosis in A375 melanoma cells. A375 cells were treated with the complete medium; 5% H2O2; 0.8 g/ml PSE. Fluorescent staining of chromosomes was observed in the treatment group indicating the apoptotic process. The apoptotic rate and cell numbers of each group were shown in a bar chart. (B) PSE causes a morphological change in melanoma cells. 1: normal cells; 2: membrane blebbing; 3: apoptotic body; 4: cell shrinkage; 5: nuclear expansion. (C) PSE inhibits cell migration and invasion. The inhibition of cell migration was measured with the following formula: Relative wound closure = (wound area at 0 h–wound area at 24 h)/(wound area at 0 h).
