The correlation coefficients of c-Fos expression between each pair of brain regions were computed in the CFC-5s (A) and the CFC (B) groups. Colors reflect correlation strength (scale, right). Functional networks were generated by selecting the significant positive correlation coefficients. Two threshold levels were applied (p < 0.05 and p < 0.01), generating two functional networks for the CFC-5s (C,D) and the CFC (E,F) groups. Nodes represent brain regions with a size proportional to their number of functional connections (degree). Colors reflect the anatomical group the brain region belongs (scale, right). Brain regions posteriorly identified as hubs were subscripted. Edges between nodes represented correlation coefficients above the threshold level and were thought to reflect functional connections. The thickness of the edges was proportional to the strength of the correlation. See group names in Fig. 1.
