Ex vivo analysis of organs to identify calcification. The top half shows organs from rats fed the EC diet, the bottom half shows organs from rats fed the healthy diet. Each row is labelled with its modality. µCT MIP images show pseudo-coloured whole-organ images, both images for each organ have been calibrated to the same colour scale using the air and paraffin wax as reference points. Alizarin Red and von Kossa images show representative 5 µm slices from the organ stained with Alizarin Red S and von Kossa stains respectively to detect calcium. Both images for each organ are shown at the same scale.
