From: Infectivity of exhaled SARS-CoV-2 aerosols is sufficient to transmit covid-19 within minutes
Cell cultures after 72 h incubation with (a) uninfected cells, and (b–d) aerosol samples (collected during singing) from SARS-CoV-2 infected individuals. Cytopathic effect is partly demonstrated as syncytia (examples indicated with arrows). Syncytia formation is known to be stronger in cell cultures infected by the alpha variant (individual 2) compared to the pre-alpha (individual 1 and 3)13.
