Trap light (purple arrow) propagates parallel to the magnetic bias field (black dashed arrow), 90:10 non-polarising beam splitter (NPBS) splits the optical pumping (blue arrow) and readout (green arrow) light onto a reference photodiode (\(\text {PD}_\text {Ref}\)) and signal photodiode (\(\text {PD}_\text {Sig}\)) after being retro-reflected by a mirror (M). Local oscillator (LO) is connected via a SMA vacuum feedthrough. (c) Optical and microwave transitions used in the experiment. Solid arrows indicate light carrier frequency, dashed arrows show repump frequencies derived from the EOM.
