There is a significant effect of age on BrdU + cell count (2-way ANOVA, F1,80 = 78.32, p < 0.0001). All Bonferroni-corrected pairwise comparisons are significant **p < 0.01, ****p < 0.0001. Data are presented as mean ± 1 s.d. and dots represent individual fish. N = 14–17 epithelia from young fish, n = 13–14 epithelia from old fish.
