BSE micrographs of the sclerite envelope and of individual sclerites that surround the cuticle and soft tissue of the Solenogastres mollusc species A. gorgonophila (AH). We observe a rather random arrangement of the sclerites in the scleritome (A, B). We find long sclerites (C, sclerite length exceeding 200 µm) and short sclerites (D, sclerite length below 100 µm). The sclerites of A. gorgonophila are hollow (EH). sclerite wall thickness is uniform (FH) and varies between 2 and 3 µm.
