Neutron irradiation facilities. Panel (a) schematic representation of facility for high-energy neutron beams. Boron carbide + silicone rubber was placed to reduce thermal neutrons. 50 mL tubes containing algal culture were located at an indicated distance from the neutron production target. Panel (b) schematic representation of facility for thermal neutron beams. Moderator was installed to slow down the passing high-energy neutrons and convert them to thermal neutrons. 50 mL tubes containing algal culture were attached to the jig, which rotated at 2 rpm during the irradiation.
