Schematic overview of the GDM postpartum follow-up experimental design. Mice were fed an HF or LF diet starting six weeks prior to gestation (PG). After 4 weeks of feeding, the mice were administered STZ or vehicle i.p. for three consecutive days. On GD15, GDM was confirmed by an OGTT. The litter size was determined and standardized to 3F + 2M at PP2. Postpartum recovery was evaluated using random blood glucose measurements at PP15. Offspring were removed at PP21. Glucose homeostasis was evaluated using the OGTT at PP28. The dams were terminated on PP30.
