Heider agents (H) outcompete defectors (D) only in the case of prioritizing private information. Defectors, on the other hand, are outcompeted by friend-focused agents (F) in all three scenarios. Pairwise competitions of FD and HD are obtained by starting in a population with 50% of the two strategies considered. On the right of each considered scenario, we plot the rate of pairwise successful cooperation (C–C) and pairwise failed cooperation (C–D, D–C and D–D) considering pairs of same-type agents (namely F-and-F or H-and-H), and the rate of pairwise successful isolation (D–D) and pairwise failed isolation (C–D) when meeting defectors (see colors in the legend). Averages are obtained by running 10 independent simulations and each lasts 5 × 106 steps.
