Average cone density (A), confidence (B), and standard deviation (C) from all 50 participants versus eccentricity from the fovea for all four cardinal meridians. Cone density measurements in this study agreed with previous reports and demonstrated a clear separation between the horizontal and vertical meridians (A inset; shaded regions are the 95% confidence interval for each meridian). Standard deviation was generally higher in the horizontal meridians near the center of fixation, becoming increasing noisy with eccentricity.
