Experimental setup. During the ageing experiment, simulated brake wear emissions are generated in the tribometer. The emissions are then diluted 1:1 with humidified zero air, and filtered using a HEPA filter before entering the PAM oxidation flow reactor. The PAM reactor generates OH radicals to simulate atmospheric ageing. Formation of new PM is measured using an SMPS. In cleaning mode, the second MFC is set to a flow of 3.0 L min−1 dry zero air which is mixed with humidified air to provide the same flow rate and humidity into the PAM as during experiments.
