Vicarious touch responses with different hedonic qualities. (A) The percentage of all endorsed vicarious touch trials in which participants categorised the felt touch as neutral, pleasant, unpleasant, or painful. (B) The corresponding average intensities for each hedonic quality (participants were only asked about hedonic intensity—how pleasant/unpleasant/painful was the touch?—for non-neutral responses). Intensity was scored on a scale from 1 to 10 (1 = not at all, 10 = extremely), with higher values indicating stronger sensations. Error bars represent 95% confidence intervals for each category.
