From: Endoplasmic reticulum stress sensor protein PERK in hepatic stellate cells promotes the progression of hepatocellular carcinoma via p38δ MAPK/IL-1β axis

Fig. 8

PERK in HSCs promotes HCC progression via the p38δ MAPK/IL-1β axis. In the tumor microenvironment of MASH-related HCC, PA absorbed from the intestine induces ER stress in HSCs, activating PERK signaling. PERK subsequently promotes IL-1β secretion via the p38δ MAPK/IL-1β axis, enhancing the proliferation, migration, and invasion of HCC cells, thereby contributing to HCC progression. Abbreviations: MASH, metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis; HCC, hepatocellular carcinoma; HSCs, hepatic stellate cells; ER, endoplasmic reticulum; PERK, protein kinase R-like endoplasmic reticulum kinase; IL-1β, interleukin-1 beta; MAPK, mitogen-activated protein kinase; PA, palmitic acid.
