Schematic representation of the analytical workflow used in this study, from raw data to genomic prediction. Three selection herds were defined: NeC (selection for average yearling body weight, YBW), NeS (selection for maximum YBW), and NeT (selection for maximum YBW and, since 2013, for lower residual feed intake, RFI). A forward validation scheme was applied, splitting the dataset into training (2004–2018) and validation (2019–2020) populations. Genomic prediction models (GBLUP, BayesB, and Elastic Net) were trained using the training set, and SNP selection strategies were applied within it. Predictive performance was then evaluated on the independent validation set.
