The Figure illustrates how the population size of a hypothetical Neanderthal expected tribe can change over the dimensionless s variable (i.e., the time as expressed in \(\tau _E\) units). The different curves represent varying initial population sizes, demonstrating the system’s tendency to converge towards the stable equilibrium population when \(0 \le f_0 \le n\), with the parameter n set to a possible reasonable value.
