Differences in metformin removal between intermittent and continuous treatments. In intermittent hemodialysis (IHD), metformin removal is faster but it could result in “rebound phenomenon” due to delayed release of metformin from intracellular space. In continuous renal replacement therapy metformin removal is slower, but “rebound phenomenon” is not possible.
