Hovmöller diagram (time vs longitude, averaged between the 40°S to 70°S latitudes) of meridional (V) wind anomalies (m s−1, positive northward) at 500-hPa pressure level during 1–12 February 2022. Anomalies are calculated at each time step by subtracting monthly average value during 1979–2022. The box above shows the zonal band over which the averaging was done including the land contours and longitudes matching the diagram. Based on ERA5 reanalysis.
