Each purified FliI sample (1 μM) was preincubated with 5 mM MgCl2, 5 mM ADP, 5 mM AlCl3, and 15 mM NaF for 20 min at room temperature, and then the mixture was stained with 1% uranyl acetate and visualized by electron microscopy. Electron micrographs were recorded at a magnification of ×50,000. Insets indicate reference-free 2D class average images calculated by RELION3.0.7.
