Inverse Simpson index \(S=1/{\sum }_{i}{f}_{i}^{2}\) calculated using alternative allele (mutation) frequencies \(\{{f}_{i}\}\) for time points 2 and 3. The numeric value of the index is approximately equal to the number of different alleles (mutations) in the population. The observed decay of \(S\) over time suggests selection acting on a set of alleles existing before time point 2.
