Crops compared to chia are corn (a), alfalfa (b), and soybean (c). Water usage reduction is calculated with evapotranspiration. Maximum, minimum, and mean are derived as projections from an average across all fields considered for (a–c) chia (n = 40), (a) corn (n = 892), (b) alfalfa (n = 130), and (c) soybean (n = 815).
