The task included four video conditions and one baseline condition presenting a fixation cross. Below each video condition are blue boxes specifying the linguistic conditions involved. The non-linguistic (blue) condition was designed to involve no linguistic components of ISL, the unlearned signs condition (in yellow) was designed to involve initial phonological processing (PIB) only, the learned signs condition (in purple) also involved phonological- and semantic-lexical processing (PIL and semantic lexicon), and the sentences condition (in green) also involved sentence-level processing.
