The mismatch percentages represent the combined number of proteins that were either uniquely identified or not identified from cell envelope extracts incubated in the respective brines compared to those incubated in the control brine BSS. These mismatches resulted from chemical alterations in the cell envelopes after incubation in the various brines. Refer to the Materials and Methods for the discriminant parameters for protein identification. a Cell envelope proteins; b Cell envelope proteins + cytosolic contaminants in cell envelope extracts.
