Groups of CAST mice were intranasally infected with either 105 (a, c, e) or 106 (b, d) pfu of MPXV clades Ib and IIb. Infectious virus load (a, b) was determined from the indicated organs at 5 dpi for both clades and exclusively for clade IIb at 7 dpi. ce MPXV genome copies were estimated from indicated organs at 5 dpi. Dots in all panels represent individual sample data and bar indicates geometric mean of the group (n = 5, except for clade Ib lungs). *, p < 0.05, **, p < 0.01 (Mann–Whitney U-test).
