The blue line is the best fit when we convolute the theoretical intensity with an instrument function. We found that the instrument function is a Gaussian with an FWHM of 6.1 μm. b The blue curve is the measured RER lineout for an unheated target. The black dashed curve is the calculated intensity using an unperturbed step function as the density profile and a Gaussian with an FWHM of 6.1 μm as the instrument function. The red dashed curve is the intensity calculated using the extracted undriven density profile shown in Fig. 3 that best fits the data.
