Scanning electron microscopy was used to image the specimens (a CF1 and b CF2) subjected to creep followed by fatigue to failure. The cracks grew across the specimen from the cut notch tip as indicated in the figure. The fatigue and creep portions of the fracture surface show less fiber pullout than the overload sections (full specimen width is not shown). Digital image correlation was used to determine the crack length associated with creep, fatigue, and overload.
