In addition, the regressions for lightning flash rate and cloud ice fraction are made for the continental (pink curve) and oceanic (green curve) regions, and the fitting coefficients (\({{{{{\rm{a}}}}}}\), \({{{{{\rm{\alpha }}}}}}\), \({{{{{\rm{b}}}}}}\), and \({{{{{\rm{\beta }}}}}}\) in Eq. (1) (“Methods”)) are presented in the figure. R2 and RMSE are goodness-of-fit index and root mean square error, respectively. The shaded areas of light blue and light orange indicate the error bars (10 times the standard errors) of the continental and oceanic regions, respectively.
