Table at the top contains the four different attributes (left column) to create the statements—valence, theme, scale, and time frame—using random assignment of the different levels within each (rows). This makes a total of 96 possible permutations, i.e., different statements. Respondents were shown two randomly generated statements and were asked to indicate which of the two statements would make them more likely to support policies to tackle climate change. Statement A and B show two example statements. Note that all statements have contextually appropriate examples added to them in addition to just the four attributes to help respondents understand the framing.
