A Daily SO2 mass recorded over Ambae during the whole eruptive period. The 4 phases of strong SO2 discharge are highlighted and identified as EDP1, EDP2, EDP3 and EDP4. The maximum daily value for each phase is indicated (in red). The curve corresponds to the cumulative SO2 values over the entire eruption period and highlights the gradual increase in SO2 discharge from EDP1 to EDP4, EDP1 being the onset eruptive discharge. The two yellow points correspond to the only DOAS SO2 flux results. B The largest SO2 loading per eruption in the period of 1978–201428. The contributions from the four eruptive phases and the total SO2 released by the Ambae 2017–2018 eruption are shown in red.
