The distribution of DNA read lengths shifts toward shorter reads after radiation exposure, with this effect being most pronounced in the microbialite and oxide iron formation samples. In all other samples, DNA fragments were very short. The median read length of the microbialite (2800 a) is 304 bp, whereas after exposure to 10.45 MGy, it is 47 bp. The median read length of the oxide iron formation (~2930 Ma) is 57 bp, whereas after exposure to 10.45 MGy, it is 46 bp, see Supplementary Information Table 2.
