Table 2 Criteria of analysis for document review

From: Socioeconomic impacts and migration dynamics of riverbank erosion

Criteria

Description

Key phrases selection

The document analysis was initiated by identifying key phrases relevant to research objectives such as ‘riverbank erosion’, ‘socioeconomic impacts’, ‘migration dynamics’, ‘displacement’ and ‘community resilience’.

Term sheet development

A term sheet was developed that specified themes and subthemes to guide the literature analysis. The review was done in reference to this, which brought focus and a structured review of the documents.

Document reading strategy

All selected documents were read with a dual focus: Being able to see the broader narrative and finding sections that the term sheet brings up. The dual approach helped to achieve an all-encompassing knowledge of each document’s role in the fulfillment of research objectives.

Theme selection

A thematic analysis was employed. Literature excerpts were categorized in terms of relevant themes from the term sheet. It was iterative, with the opportunity to refine the themes developed as the review progressed, and therefore created a dynamic and responsive analytical framework.
