Schematic of the general sensitivity of TROPOMI and CrIS to the troposphere. TROPOMI has sensitivity to the entire tropospheric column while CrIS is sensitive to a variable range of altitudes in the free troposphere. Taking the ratio between the total CO columns from these instruments give the fraction of the total CO column in the altitudes where CrIS is sensitive.
