Abstract
1. The literature of neuromyelitis optica is reviewed.
2. A case is presented in which neuromyelitis optica followed three months after traumatic paraplegia. It is believed that this case is unique.
3. This case raises possibilities concerning the aetiology of neuromyelitis optica, and may suggest possible future lines of investigation.
