From: Dual evidence of surface Dirac states in thin cylindrical topological insulator Bi2Te3 nanowires

Panel (a) and the inset, respectively, show the low magnification SEM and TEM images of the Bi2Te3 nanowires.

The majority of nanowires display a length of 8–15 μm and a diameter of 40–50 nm. High-resolution TEM and the selected area electron diffraction pattern on a randomly selected nanowire, as shown in panel (b) and the inset, revealed single-crystal morphology. An oxidation layer of approximately ~5.0 nm is visible on the surface.
