Figure 3: Hemolysis studies of GOs and oxidized NDs of different size with human RBCs.
From: The hemocompatibility of oxidized diamond nanocrystals for biomedical applications

(a) Hemolysis percentages measured at the concentration range of 25–400 μg/mL for GOs and 4 different ND samples (35, 100, 250, and 500 nm in diameter) incubated with RBCs at 25°C for 2 h. GOs served as the positive control. (b) Photographs of human RBCs treated with GOs and NDs of 4 different size at the concentration range of 25–400 μg/mL. The red color of the solution is due to the release of hemoglobin from the damaged RBCs, and the red pellets at the bottom of the Eppendorf tubes are intact RBCs precipitated by centrifugation. PBS and DDW served as the negative (−) and positive (+) controls, respectively. The experiments were repeated in triplicate.
